Summer course on car design
As part of my interest and desire to work with the aesthetics of cars, I signed up for a car design course in Turin, Italy. Although during my studies I have pivoted from car design to product design, I still want to try out this field to see if this is something I could see myself doing in the future, as this was the main reason I pursued Industrial design in the first place. I am also looking forward to meeting new people and getting to experience the design education outside of the Netherlands.
Working
Part of my desire would be to start working for a workshop or a makerspace, where I could pursue the development of prototyping and manufacturing. I would like to experience design out of the academic sphere to see how working for a company or clients would be. The main reason would be to take a break from studying, either by taking a gap year or joining the workforce for good.
I believe working at a workshop or a makerspace would be beneficial because it would allow me to focus on parts of design I inherently enjoy, which is the creative side of sketching, prototyping, and manufacturing, as opposed to the academic route, where the emphasis lies on research and methodology, which backs most of the design decisions.
Masters
I applied to a master’s at both TUE and TU Delft as a backup plan if I don’t manage to get a job in the field. I am considering TU Delft as the primary choice because I believe the Integrated Product Design program might be more aligned to my identity and vision. I would also see this as an opportunity to meet more people from different backgrounds and experience how another university approaches the design process. I believe that a master's degree at either TUE or TU Delft would help me acquire additional contacts and broaden my already existing network.
