Mechanical Sculpture
(TR, CA)
The assignment required us to build a mechanical sculpture using an energy storage mechanism, which would drive two different mechanisms at different frequencies. This also had to transform the rotational motion to other motions.
I made a sculpture resembling a bike, where one side of the mechanism was spinning an engine cylinder, translating rotational motion to linear motion, and the other side was connected to a linkage mechanism.
In the beginning, I was excited to work on more technical designs of more advanced mechanisms and gear assemblies. Making a fully working artefact using actuation and without electronics allowed me to fully focus on sharpening my CAD skills and testing out my manufacturing capabilities.
